A national folk art exhibition and contest entitled ‘Tu, jo numylėta Tėvynė!’(You Are His Beloved Homeland), serving as a memento of Maironis, has become a great tradition. Every five years, invited by Raseiniai Region History Museum, Lithuanian folk artists gather together to exhibit their artwork dedicated to the memory of Maironis. In 1997, to commemorate the poet’s 135th anniversary, such a folk art exhibition and contest was hosted for the first time. Since then, in September of the anniversary year of Maironis’ birth, visitors to the museum may find an interesting exhibition displaying items about Maironis’ poetry, his personality, or native land in the folk art tradition, for after the event, folk artists usually give away one or two pieces of their artwork to the museum. This way the magnificent collection of exhibits dedicated to the memory of Maironis has originated.
